L'Image Satellite showcases contemporary photography practices by setting up the heart of its event at 109 - Pôle de cultures contemporaines.
The l’Image Satellite festival is designed as an observatory of the still image, attentive to the emerging pulses that nourish contemporary photography. Documentary approaches, visual artist approaches, vernacular uses of photography, experiments with the printed, exhibited, edited, displayed, projected, and animated image: the l’Image Satellite festival showcases the permanences, impulses, and flashes of brilliance that inhabit today's photographic creation.

L’Image Satellite showcases contemporary photography practices from September 20 to October 11, 2025, by setting up the heart of its event at 109 – a contemporary culture hub, augmented by a program of exhibitions and events in the galleries of downtown Nice.

The Imperfection of the Plan
For this 2025 edition, l’Image Satellite is asserting a resolutely experimental stance. The Imperfection of the Plan is an exhibition program that questions the classic frameworks of photographic representation to propose new sensitive and formal, poetic, and critical approaches. From 109—a center for contemporary cultures—to the galleries of downtown Nice, Image Satellite deploys a map of protean practices that question the margins of the visible, shifting toward a new space of experimentation, resistance, and reinvention of forms.

Satellite Laboratory with the invitation of Mathieu Asselin
The festival is pleased to welcome the artist Mathieu Asselin for a laboratory exhibition based on his ongoing work on the "migration crisis" in Europe. Contrary to traditional analyses in terms of population perceptions, the artist strives to describe and highlight the geopolitical and economic underpinnings of these phenomena, supported by logics of power often hidden in dominant political and media narratives. The approach is alternately documentary and speculative, but always anchored in facts and investigative work. Here, he presents an overview of this research in the form of the exhibition "War and Control: The Double Edge of the Arms Economy in Europe" in the central part of the Grande Halle du 109, the epicenter of the event.

Group Exhibition
Through the works of Anne-Lise Seusse, Arina Essipowitsch, Francesca Comune, Seno Sayoo, and Marianne Muller, Satellite Image proposes a connection between formal attempts that constitutes the heart of the thematic thread: the imperfection of the shot. Whether through visual distortions, post-production manipulations, unconventional shooting devices, or fragmented narratives, each artist offers a unique perspective on the limits—and freedoms—of the image.
Here, imperfection becomes strategy. The photographic plane, far from being a smooth and controlled surface, is open to manipulation, accident, chance, and fiction. It becomes a terrain of artistic and political exploration where the image is no longer (merely) evidence, but experience.
The works gathered in the northern space of the Grande Halle du 109 thus create an immersive and reflective space, where photography is perceived not as an outcome, but as a process in perpetual motion.

Université Côte d’Azur Partnership
The l’Image Satellite festival is proud to host Hubert Crabières' large-format wall installation on the walls of the Cour Intérieure du 109, a tribute to the artist's residency at the Université Côte d’Azur in 2025.

2025 Satellite Prize
The Musée de la Photographie Gallery welcomes Sandrine Marc, winner of the 2025 Satellite Prize for Les Phénomènes Analogues, a work of formal experimentation developed during her 2024 Picto Lab residency.

Carte blanche to Driss Aroussi
Artist Driss Aroussi takes over the gallery Wednesday/Saturday for three weeks of exhibitions, unfolding his visual universe, which questions the reproducible image in its very form.

CARTA #2
The l’Image Satellite festival is integrating the photographic book into its programming with CARTA #2, a gathering focused on editorial practices co-organized by two programmers: the Super Issue collective and The Light Observer magazine.

L’Automne de l’Image #4
Supported by La Bande Passante, L’Automne de l’Image celebrates and unites, for a third season, festivals and events dedicated to photography, film, and video, from September 20 to November 29, 2025. Saturday, September 20 marks the collective launch of this third edition, starting on the 109th, with the opening of L’Image Satellite, the first festival of the season, and a series of events combining screenings, openings, and live music, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days.
