As part of the second edition of the ProPhilia festival, Villa Arson and the philosophy department of the Université Côte d'Azur have once again joined forces to offer the public an evening dedicated to noise music.
Program:
- 7:00 PM: Doors open;
- 7:30 PM: Performance by the Nice Inharmonic Orchestra (LOIN);
- 8:00 PM: Sound lecture "The Noise of Time" by Céleste Gatier and Catherine Guesde.
Location: Amphitheater 4.
The Nice Inharmonic Orchestra (LOIN)
Initiated in 2011 as a counterpoint to traditional student brass bands, the Nice Inharmonic Orchestra (LOIN) is a flexible-geometry improvisational music orchestra composed of students with an empirical approach to music based on collective listening. All types of instruments and voices are welcome, as well as any sounding or dissonant object.
Concerts are offered every year with guests such as Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Claire Gapenne, Jean-Marc Montera, Meryll Ampe, the duo Hackedepicciotto (Einstürzende Neubauten), and, very soon, Sandra Boss on April 30th.
Sound Conference “The Noise of Time”
Can we listen to the passage of time? What is the noise of bygone times? By focusing on the fragility of sound, this conference (led by Céleste Gatier and Catherine Guesde) will seek to define, as well as blur, the multiple temporalities that reside within degraded sound.
Céleste Gatier
Lecturer in the Philosophy Department at Paris 8 University Vincennes – Saint-Denis; her research focuses on forms of sonic radicalism such as extreme metal and noise.
Catherine Guesde
Sound artist, performer, and researcher in the history of Japanese architecture. She develops a transdisciplinary artistic approach focusing on the fragility of the sound object and its spatialization.
