The Church of Saint-Pierre in Haut-de-Cagnes, a treasure in its own right in the old town, is preparing to host the Harmonium Mustel No. 4 sacred music concert!
The harmonium is an instrument that is most often played accompanied by another instrument or a lyrical voice.
Sonia Sempéré, soprano, Emmanuelle Pelaprat, harmonium player, and Igor Kiritchenko, cellist, will perform a repertoire of sacred music.
A contribution will be requested during the interval for the artists.
In 1929, Saint-Pierre Church received a donation of a MUSTEL harmonium, a French manufacturer who designed it in 1848. This instrument is extremely rare and had never been given any particular attention.
Its condition deteriorated over time.
In 2009, a few local volunteers founded the Eglise Saint-Pierre du Haut-de-Cagnes association. Its aim is to promote and encourage initiatives to help restore and preserve the building and its furnishings and objects. The association exists thanks to donations and occasional grants.
In 2021, the association's office contacted Cyrille JOURDAIN, an organ and harmonium builder from the harmonium workshop in GABIAN (Hérault).
Cyrille JOURDAIN compared the harmonium to a ‘ROLLS’, which encouraged the association to undertake its restoration.
This took several months and the harmonium was delivered ready for use in April 2022.
The cost of its restoration amounted to €17,000. The financing was provided by: The association's own funds, a grant from the Departmental Council and an anonymous donor.
