The living collections of the eco-museum, which opened in the 1980s under the leadership of Danish entomologist and filmmaker Ib Schmedes, are surrounded by a garden of typical local trees and shrubs.
A land of vines celebrated by Marcel Pagnol who saw in them "barbaric flowers" and a "civilized wine", the village of La Gaude is today dedicated to the cultivation of carnations as well as to nature lovers.
It is here that in the 80's the Living Ecomuseum of Provence was opened, under the leadership of the Danish entomologist and filmmaker Ib Schmedes.
