The Riviera Palace's monumental greenhouse, designed by Gustave Eiffel, was intended to house winter parties for the hotel's residents.
A garden in winter

Built in 1898 by architect Georges Chedane for the Société Internationale des Grands Hôtels et Wagons Lits, which already owned the legendary Orient-Express, this imposing building was once a luxury hotel.

Set 180 metres above sea level, the panorama stretches from Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat to the Italian capes. A rack-and-pinion railway, now defunct, took wealthy residents directly to the Monte Carlo casino below.

A monumental greenhouse

The greenhouse, designed by Gustave Eiffel, was intended to house winter parties for the hotel's residents. Spanning 900 m², it is home to numerous tropical plants, in planters or shiny ceramic pots, punctuated here and there by a large collection of rare flowers.

The contrast between the lush, exotic vegetation and its Mediterranean counterpart on the outside was, at the time, part of the refinement of Côte d'Azur hotels.
