JULES AND MARCEL
Raimu - Pagnol, an eternal friendship
Raimu - Pagnol, an eternal friendship
DESTINED, they were both destined... This is the story that Jean Destin's character will tell us, through the correspondence between Marcel Pagnol and Jules Raimu. Thanks to their private writings, we will relive with them the behind-the-scenes story of a friendship that wrote some of the most beautiful pages in 20th-century theatre and cinema.
With imaginative, contemporary and lively staging, we will visit all the places where their lives unfolded: on stage, of course, but above all in dressing rooms, offices, restaurants, bars, on the street... In an hour and a half, we are treated to an evocation of an intimate and professional bond, bringing to life all those moments that were as intense as they were discreet but which, thanks to their correspondence, have come down to us with their real words, their true expressions, their authentic outbursts and their declarations of love and respect that were as sincere as they were eternal. We discover in a very concrete way the intelligence and mischief of Marcel Pagnol, the frankness and common sense of Jules Raimu; and this third character, ‘Jean’, who brings so many others to life: theatre directors, restaurateurs, prop masters...
Through these little stories, the bigger picture emerges: from the creation of Marius at the theatre to the birth of talking films, and from the difficulties of filming La Femme du Boulanger to the Second World War, which turned everything upside down. We also see the accolades: at the C
