Destined, they were both destined... This is the story that this character of Jean Destin will tell us, through the correspondence between Marcel Pagnol and Jules Raimu.
Through their intimate writings, we will relive with them the behind-the-scenes moments of a friendship that wrote some of the most beautiful pages of 20th-century theater and cinema. With an imaginative, contemporary, and rhythmic production, we will visit all the places where their lives were played out: on stage, of course, but especially in dressing rooms, offices, restaurants, bars, the streets...
In 1.5 hours, this film evokes an intimate and professional bond, bringing to life all those moments, as intense as they were discreet, but which, thanks to their correspondence, have come down to us with their real words, their genuine expressions, their authentic outbursts, and their declarations of love and respect as sincere as they were eternal. We discover in a very tangible way the intelligence and wit of Marcel Pagnol, the frankness and common sense of Jules Raimu; and this third character, "Jean," who will bring to life so many others: theater directors, restaurateurs, prop masters...
Through this little story, the big one unfolds: from the creation of Marius in the theater to the birth of talking pictures, or even the difficulties of filming The Baker's Wife to the Second World War, which turned everything upside down. We will also see the accolades: at the Comédie Française for one and at the Académie Française for the other.
The story of a life, the story of a duo, the story of the 20th century.
