After "The Chairs?" and "Mr. & Mrs. Dream," Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Derouault continue to explore the theatrical world of Eugène Ionesco.
"The Lesson" is a new experience for Théâtre du Corps, exploring the danced word, exploring language and the body in movement.
In this comic drama, the professor is simultaneously a dance, arithmetic, philology, and linguistics teacher. He is even a choreographer or conductor. He is the supreme authority, imparting knowledge that is as much intellectual as it is physical. The arithmetic and philology lesson becomes a dance class and reinforces the absurdity of the situation: the word resonates in gesture, the number in rhythmic movement.
Based on the original work by Eugène Ionesco - Theater and Dance
Choreography and direction by Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Derouault
Lighting by Alexis David
Costume design by Marie-Claude Pietragalla
Production by Théâtre du Corps
