For his new creation, the director of La Criée, Robin Renucci, immerses himself in the famous comic drama by Eugène Ionesco and wishes to make this work heard by younger generations.
At first, the situation seems normal. A teacher welcomes a young student for a private lesson; he leads The Lesson, and she learns obediently. Then everything spirals out of control. A climate of threat looms, foreshadowing the tragic end of events. Frustrated by his student's shortcomings, the teacher becomes increasingly demanding and gradually transforms into a domineering and aggressive tyrant. Under his influence, the student gradually loses his cheerfulness and sinks into silence, like a rag doll.
Eugène Ionesco, master of the theater of the absurd, shows us that there is a fine line between authority and abuse of power. Through this tense The Lesson, he creates a clear satire of professorial domination, tinged with dark humor. Language, far from being a tool of knowledge, becomes the instrument of an absurd and perverse power.
With Christine Pignet, Robin Renucci, Inès Valarcher
