La pierre du Boutaù, 06670 Levens
The historical fact of the expulsion of their last lord is that the people of Levens at that time laid a round stone in the shape of a truncated cone.
In order to perpetuate the memory of their descendants of the historical fact of the expulsion of their last lord, the Levensois of that time placed a round stone in the shape of a truncated cone on the upper square of their village, in front of the entrance to the old lord's castle, to which the inhabitants gave the name "Boutaù". The tradition has been so strongly preserved among the Levensois that every year, during their patron saint's day, on 2 September, they organise a farandole or "Brandi". After having walked through the main streets, the dancers and elected officials put their feet on this symbolic stone as a sign of victory.
