The resort was founded in 1937 from an alpine village. The cable car, inaugurated on January 30, 1937, was the third built in France, and international ski championships were organized in the resort from 1938.
With a vertical drop of 700 meters, it carried 30 passengers in 10 minutes to the summit of the Las Donnas dome at an altitude of 2,270 meters, where seven slopes were available for skiing. These seven slopes were named after musical notes: C-D-E-F-G-A-B.
In 1977, when the cable car reached its 40th year, its capacity of 150 skiers per hour no longer met the resort's growing needs. It was then decided to replace it entirely while retaining the supporting cables and anchors. The chosen...
