The first memory I have of my mother is when I was four or five years old. She would call my two brothers and me for dinner and say, "Boys and Guillaume, come to the table!"
And the last time I spoke to her on the phone two days ago, she hung up and said, "I kiss you, my darling." Well, let's just say that between those two sentences, there were a few misunderstandings.
As a young boy, Guillaume thought he was a girl. At least, he behaved like one, which didn't displease his mother, who never missed an opportunity to stir up confusion. Through a touching and funny text, Guillaume Gallienne paints the portrait of a lost boy, the subject of troubling sexual confusion. Faced with an unsympathetic environment, he questions his own identity, constructed through social "norms." He then blurs the lines, fuels the confusion, enjoys this "fragility," and pays homage to femininity. Without seeming to, and with a great deal of derision, Guillaume kicks the anthill because he claims nothing more than his own difference and his own right to happiness, in a society he dreams of as inclusive.
