The Marsaglia Park – located a stone’s throw from the sea, near the “Passeggiata dell’Imperatrice” (Empress Promenade) – is certainly one of the most evocative public gardens in the city of Sanremo.
Marsaglia Park, in the Heart of the City
Marsaglia Park is what remains of the historic property of Giovanni Marsaglia, a wealthy entrepreneur who, in the second half of the 19th century, contributed to the urban transformation of Sanremo. At the centre of the Marsaglia estate was a villa, known as “il Castello”, designed by architect Pio Soli in 1882 and demolished at the end of World War II due to damage.
Part of the Marsaglia Park has since been restored by the municipal administration, which has preserved the original structure of the garden, with wide and comfortable paths leading to exciting views. The botanical wealth has also been safeguarded. The vegetation, rich in palm trees and exotic species from Brazil and Chile, lends a magical atmosphere to the landscape.
In the centre of the Park, there is an open-air auditorium dedicated to the Neapolitan composer Franco Alfano, who passed away in the City of Flowers in 1954.
