Tuesday October 7 to Saturday October 11: L a Traviata (Blue Week)
As part of its partnership with Micro-Folie and to mark Blue Week, the Opéra national de Paris is offering a free screening of La Traviata, Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece, in a contemporary staging by Simon Stone.
The Australian director transposes Violetta's story into our own time. She is no longer the demi-mondaine of Alexandre Dumas fils, but a social networking star, living off her image and her digital tips shared via "posts", "selfies" and "stories". Yet behind this hyper-connected shop window, her destiny remains unchanged: forced to renounce her love for Alfredo in the face of social convention.
La Traviata is one of Verdi's most popular operas. Carried by a melodramatic libretto, simple, moving music and the tragic fate of its heroine, it has continued to touch generations of audiences for over a century.
