Stage 2 VTT(AE) of the Haute Route du Sel (direction Tende - La Brigue): Col de Tende (1871 m.) - Col des Seigneurs (2111 m.), refuge Don Barbera
You start from the top of the Col de Tende, which you can reach by car or by bike from Casterino (see stage 1: Casterino - Col de Tende).
At your feet you'll find France to the south and Italy to the north. The route begins with a visit to Fort Central, built between 1881 and 1885.
Continue eastwards for 3km to reach the entrance to the paying section of the Haute Route du Sel. Here begins the ascent of the small Campanino pass, where every bend in the road offers breathtaking views.
The itinerary continues along the ridge line with several small mountain lakes to the north, and skims the Cima del Becco (2300 m.) to the south.
The route continues along a small pass before arriving at the famous Boaria bend. At an altitude of 2126m, this emblematic point on the Haute Route du Sel offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and valleys below.
The trail continues as you cross the border into the Marguareis enclave in the commune of La Brigue. The road rises as the massifs of Castel Chevolail (2252 m.) and Castel Frippi (2256 m.) come into view. After 3km, you reach Plan Ambreuge at the foot of the Marguareis peak (2651 m.).
We then descend southwards towards the Col des Seigneurs. After 1.5km, you reach a small parking lot marking the summit of the pass. A little further on is the Don Barbera hut, where electric bikes can be recharged.
