The Musée de l'Annonciade, founded in 1922, is a reminder that Saint-Tropez was one of the most active centers of avant-garde painting in the early 20th century, thanks to Paul Signac, who docked here in 1892 aboard his yacht L'Olympia.
Seduced by the area, Signac bought a house and turned it into his studio, La Hune, where he invited numerous painters: Cross, Matisse, Derain and Marquet.
The collections on display, spanning the period from 1890 to 1950, are surprising in both their quality and their homogeneity. All the artists exhibited based their work on a reflection on color, while remaining faithful to figuration.
The ensemble is made up of first-rate paintings, mainly from the Pointillist, Nabi and Fauve movements.
