The Cimiez Monastery, along with its cemetery and the adjoining garden (currently public), is a place of worship, culture, history and tourism, among the most important in the city of Nice.
On the second floor of the Cimiez Monastery, the cells of the former Friars Minor convent now house the Franciscan Museum. In its rooms, where simplicity and contemplation pervade the space, paintings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, and frescoes evoke the life of the Franciscans in Nice from the 13th to the 18th centuries and illustrate the spiritual message of Saint Francis of Assisi.
In the Monastery Square stands the Seraphic Cross, a copy of the original located in the Church of Cimiez, which dates from 1477. Standing 5.80 meters tall and made of marble, it is adorned with several finely sculpted figures, including the seraph who appeared to Saint Francis of Assisi.
