Surprised by the possibilities, he obliged in 1879. The Concerto in C minor, Op.35 is the first piano concerto by Russian composer Shostakovich. Composed in 1933, it was premiered the same year by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. Shostakovich played the piano part brilliantly, and Alexander Schmidt the trumpet. In response to public acclaim, he made a reduced version for string quintet and two soloists, with trumpet and piano occupying an equal place.
