Passage Cahours

  • Historic site and monument
Passage Cahours, 06140 Vence
Before the new town hall was built in 1910, the bishop's palace was supported on the side of the cathedral by a ‘pontis’, similar to the one at the end of the Passage Cahours.
The central courtyard of the bishop's palace could be accessed via two pontis, one to the south and the other to the north.
The pontis, the only remaining vestige, dates from the 14th century. Scars" on the Cathedral wall are a reminder of the presence of the other pontis.

The ram enthroned in the centre of the passageway is a replica of an 11th or 12th century toy installed by the painter Henri-Maurice Cahours in 1970.
