The view from this Colomars promontory, whose name derives from the Latin colombarium (dovecote) and the ancient Provençal lo columbat (pigeon), is splendid...
A bird's-eye view takes in the landscape from the plains and hills to the highest peaks.

Landscape interpretation :

Due to an optical effect, the Var river only appears in a few places, and only in its upstream section, giving the impression of moving from one hill to the next. The landscape is marked by urbanization, which is denser as you approach the coast: the industrial zone of Carros-Le Broc, the old village of Carros and its new town, which is expanding into single-family dwellings on the Plans and apartment buildings in Carros le Neuf.

On the more wooded hillside, housing develops along the roads. There are alternating groves of pine trees on pudding soils, and cultivated areas with olive trees planted on terraces, glasshouses for flower production and vegetable tunnels on the plain.

The right bank of the Var marks the beginning of the great Provencal plateaus. Heading south, the Baous of La Gaude, Saint-Jeannet, Noirs and Blancs, rocky promontories dominate the Vence region, between the Loup and Var rivers. Archaeological remains testify to protohistoric, ancient and medieval occupation of these sites. The Baou de Saint-Jeannet imposes its shape with a spur that resembles a rampart.
