Refuge des Merveilles, summer season

  • Refuge
Elevation : 2111m
06430 Tende
The refuge is located on the banks of Lac Long Supérieur, in the heart of the rock engravings of the Vallée des Merveilles, surrounded by numerous lakes and peaks: Bégo, Grand Capelet, Cime du Diable...
First and foremost, the refuge des merveilles welcomes a wide variety of visitors. Experienced hikers on the GTA itinerary rub shoulders with trail runners, a few mountaineers and a cultural public (families, schoolchildren, novice hikers).
The refuge is located in an open-air museum. This exceptional archaeological site, listed as a historic monument, is spread between two valleys around Mont Bégo. The site features 40,000 rock engravings dating from 4000 to 2000 BC, evidence of pastoral occupation. When you cross the Vallée des Merveilles on the GR, you feel an almost mystical, highly unusual sense of place.

If you wish to reserve meals only, please contact the refuge by telephone or e-mail: refugedesmerveilles@ffcam.fr
