Evergreen tree of the Moraceae family, the Ficus macrophylla is native to Eastern Australia. If it can reach 60 meters high in its country of origin, in France, it will not exceed 20 to 30 meters.
Typical of rainforests, it often develops as a climbing plant spreading its roots around the trunk of its host, which it eventually kills to take its place.
In our region, its sometimes impressive appearance is due to the development of its branched aerial roots, which join the ground and become as many additional trunks, thus forming pillars that help maintain the weight of the top part of the tree.
