In this major exhibition presented by the FAMM, Elizabeth Colomba returns to the place of her artistic heritage for the first institutional presentation of her work in France.
As a tribute, this carefully curated selection of works follows Colomba’s exploration of themes such as beauty, power, identity, and the representation of the Black female figure — with a particular focus on European cultural references.
Whether reimagining the Battle of Martinique through allegory, reframing portraiture to highlight marginalized or erased European figures from history and art, revealing and reclaiming the hidden lives within aristocratic estates in the UK, or subverting Orientalist traditions from within — the works on display offer a powerful reinterpretation of Europe’s cultural and artistic history, through Colomba’s singular poetry and mastery of portraiture.
