The exhibition invites you to discover a selection of contemporary Aboriginal artworks sourced directly from the central Australian desert, in a way that respects the artists and their communities.
A modern expression of an ancestral culture dating back over 60,000 years, contemporary Aboriginal art in Australia continues to captivate us with its variety of styles and colors, but it holds much more: the beliefs of the Aboriginal people and their ancestral myths (Dreamings). Through their works, Aboriginal artists bring to life their spiritual connection with their ancestors and the land they traversed millennia ago. The ancestral energy released by the motifs and symbols on the canvas cannot leave us indifferent, for it is expressed with incredible modernity. Aboriginal art touches us all because it expresses and teaches us, above all, the essential: the quest for lasting harmony between humankind and nature. Welcome to the Dreaming...
All the works presented by Red Dunes Gallery were acquired personally on-site directly from the represented art centers or sourced in close collaboration with these centers, with respect for the artists and their communities.
The represented art centers are cooperatives managed entirely by a committee of Aboriginal artists. These artists, as well as Red Dunes Gallery, are signatories of the Indigenous Art Code (IAC), guaranteeing the traceability of the artworks and ethical practices towards the artists.
Dreaming the Earth is an exhibition organized by Céline Emery-Demion, of Franco-Australian origin, with the aim of promoting and sharing the rich pictorial and cultural heritage of Aboriginal people. Having grown up and lived for some twenty years on this island continent, Céline has come to appreciate its fascinating nature, its incredibly diverse wildlife, and its vast territories. Thanks to her parents, who regularly traveled with her brothers into the bush to explore the country, she developed a very close connection to the land and its beauty from a young age. This deep personal attachment to the Australian landscape naturally led her to discover Aboriginal art some twenty years ago, and this discovery blossomed into a passion. Now back in France, she wishes to share the energy and artistic power of this people, who, despite past persecutions, remain a strong people, constantly fighting for recognition of their rightful place on Australian soil.
