According to tradition, Hubert was a lord who was passionate about hunting. On Good Friday, he encountered an extraordinary stag with a luminous cross between its antlers. This vision moved him deeply and led him to convert, renounce his worldly life and devote himself to God.
The feast of Saint Hubert remains very much alive in the forested regions of France. It is marked by the blessing of dogs and horses, solemn masses accompanied by hunting horns, and processions.
Today, Saint Hubert's Day is as much a religious festival as it is a time for socialising, when hunters, forest lovers and local residents come together to share traditions, music and local cuisine.
