It dates back to the 11th century. The building was considerably modified around the 19th century, with extensions including the addition of the presbytery in 1846. From 1992 onwards, major works gradually gave the church its current appearance.
It is said that the local population dug caves beneath the church's foundations to serve as a refuge from invaders.
Inside, the church features a number of paintings, sculptures and stained glass windows depicting St. John the Baptist, patron saint of the commune and celebrated every year on June 24. This is the high point of the Saint-Jean festivities, which have been a village tradition for decades.
The cannons in front of the church bear witness to the region's important military past.
