The Church of Saint Michael, built between 1764 and 1777, is in the baroque style of Nice. It is dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michael, Prince of the Celestial Militias who defeated the Dragon.
Formerly, La Turbie had a small Romanesque church, located on the site of the present cemetery, in which it had become difficult to practise religious worship. The community therefore decided to build a new church using the stones from the ruined Trophée d'Auguste (mined in 1705). Work on the construction of St. Michael's Church began in the summer of 1764 under the direction of the "capo maestro" Antoine SPINELLI, a native of the Swiss Ticino, one of the cradles of Baroque art.

Today, the curved façade of St. Michael's Church, like two open arms, compensates for the cramped conditions of the square. The bulbous bell tower, covered with glazed tiles, a scale reminds us that St. Michael is also the weigher of souls.Numerous works of art decorate the side chapels, the nave and the choir.

This magnificent church of baroque style from Nice is classified as a historical monument since 1938. Unfortunately, over the years, the edifice has had more and more difficulty in resisting bad weather. It was necessary to wait for its classification as a historic monument before serious renovation work was undertaken. MATT (parish priest from 1935 to 1967), who consecrated the building as a historical monument time and energy to their restoration, that you can admire today the many paintings that adorn the chapels of the church.
