This concert invites you to immerse yourself in the refined and expressive world of the repertoire for treble viol and treble viol, accompanied by the bass viol.
Through the works of European composers such as Johann Christoph Pepusch, Johann Daniel Hardt, Theodor Schwarzkopf, and Thomas Marc, an entire soundscape is revealed: elegant melodic lines, subtle ornaments, and a play of echoes and contrasts between voices.
From Germany to England, via France and the Netherlands, these pieces reveal the richness of cultural exchanges within Baroque Europe. Far from being simple accompaniment, the viola parts interact, respond to one another, and sometimes challenge one another, in an art of counterpoint and improvisation that gives pride of place to invention and sensitivity.
