A playful, funny, light and moving tête-à-tête with the genius who revolutionized music and brought all its emotions to a climax.
“Close your eyes and try to remember what you felt the first time you heard Beethoven… (…)”
After Tête-à-Tête avec… Molière, L’illustre inconnu, Emmanuelle Lorre chose, for this second opus, to meet the man wrongly presented as a misanthrope. She immersed herself in the intimacy and private life of this avant-garde genius. She sought to discover the man behind one of the greatest composers of all time.
At 17, the young Beethoven met Mozart, who would say of him to his friends: “Watch out for this one, he’ll be the talk of the world.”
Tadadadaaaaaam… Tadadadaaaaam!
It’s impossible to ignore this famous opening of Symphony No. 5, which so perfectly characterizes its composer. Mozart was right!

Nicknamed The Spaniard because of his olive skin and dark hair, charismatic, a rock star before his time, deaf, and tortured, the image of a solitary and angry genius sticks to the skin of this legendary composer. Who better than Ludwig van Beethoven to embody the figure of the misunderstood artist? However, it would be wrong to reduce Beethoven, like his music, to a single character trait.
To love Beethoven, to try to understand him, to penetrate his world (his performers know this well), one must not be afraid of exalted passions.
Beethoven was a rebel, incapable of resignation, impatient with social constraints, a revolutionary, both politically and musically. An ardent defender of the ideals of the French Revolution, he sought similar upheaval in his music. A fierce innovator, the German composer invented new forms of expression that would shape the sound of future composers, notably paving the way for Romanticism.
A passion for life, a delirious joy, a universal brotherhood of man, and a desperate hope animated this man enamored of equality and freedom. When, despite his fame, he suffered from loneliness, romantic disappointments, and his deafness, he always retained the joy of his strength.
Beethoven's life is not only a matter of musical history; through his example, it must provide support and comfort, the presence of a friend, a confidant. A lesson in life!
