Sculpture
The artist began his professional life as an actor (his first film was Luchino Visconti's 'Rocco and His Brothers', in which he partnered Alain Delon and Annie Girardot). He then opened a restaurant in Nice which was frequented by all the stars of the 60s. He discovered sculpture and it was a revelation. From 1965, he created and exhibited. His themes were exceptionally varied: fabric birds in 65; legs in 70; casts, tin and mirrors in 75; masks in 79; eggs in 80; school of chairs in 84; fabric armchairs in 86; frying pans in 87, entwined objects in 90; stone men in 91; iron men in 92... Max Cartier was in constant evolution.
"My stone men and my iron men are the warriors of the impossible; even if seemingly elementary, they hold within them the keys to becoming."
