This exhibition, at the Musée du Masque de Fer et du Fort Royal, highlights Cannes' maritime heritage and the history of fishing, essential elements in the identity of the town and the Lérins Islands.
Organized with the participation of contemporary Italian artist Alberto Storari, French photographer Karl Kugel and Fabrice Milazzo, Cannes fisherman and prud'homme, the exhibition brings together over a hundred works, objects and archival documents.
The exhibition occupies the museum's three temporary display rooms, covering a total surface area of around 140 m², as well as the Roman cisterns on the first floor. Visitors can discover paintings, maps, photographs and fishing-related objects from the collections of the Musee du Masque de Fer and Fort Royal, complemented by contemporary works.
The tour is structured around several themes
- the daily life of Cannes fishermen, through a photographic report and a video ;
- fishing in days gone by, illustrated by objects from the museum's collections;
- the discovery of marine species through reproductions of watercolors by Vincent Fossat;
- the Mediterranean and the island of Sainte-Marguerite, interpreted in the pictorial creations of Alberto Storari, including two previously unpublished works from his residency on the island (Island, 2025, oil paint and silver leaf; Frame story, 2025, mixed media on silk paper).
