If the two assets of Menton were for a long time olive and lemon, from the end of the 19th century, it was in the shade of umbrellas that the city experienced a new prosperity: the international development of climate tourism.
The development of upscale, Russian and Anglo-Saxon seaside tourism left beautiful traces in the city, still visible today and especially on the promenade. A simple walk along the Promenade du Soleil allows you to check it. There, about 2 km from the Quartier de la Madone to the Old Town, follow the monumental facades of the palaces of yesteryear nicely decorated with yuccas, euphorbias, and various palm trees; cafes and restaurants offering beautiful terraces to sit facing the sea.
