Train des Merveilles Nice - Tende

Available on weekends and public holidays from April to May (including May 1st), every day from June to September, and on weekends in October. Climb aboard the Train des Merveilles and soar to new heights on one of Europe's most spectacular rail journeys! From Nice to Tende, this exceptional line takes you from the shores of the Mediterranean to the peaks of the Alps, climbing to altitudes of over 1,000 meters. Initiated in 1883 and inaugurated in 1928, this railroad line is a testament to the Italian and French genius of the time, an epic feat of construction under extreme conditions. This remarkable feat of engineering, adapted to the dense, steep terrain of the region, features an impressive series of engineering structures. Admire viaducts overhanging deep canyons and cross tunnels carved out of the mountains. Over just 100 kilometers, the Train des Merveilles tackles an impressive vertical drop of over 1,000 meters. The route includes 81 tunnels, totaling 44 kilometers, including 3 spectacular spiral tunnels: the Scarassouï viaduct at Berghe, the passage between Saint-Dalmas de Tende and La Brigue, and the last between Tende and Viévola. With 407 bridges (including the Rivoira viaduct, which spans 300 meters), 15 arches reaching 45 meters in height, and 130 retaining walls, this is a journey of discovery combining grandiose nature and spectacular engineering.
