Professor Schmitt (University of Reading; US Naval War College emeritus) reviews US uses and threats of force since Trump’s January 2025 return, from Iran to Greenland, assessing each under international law.
In this public lecture, Professor Schmitt, Professor of Law at the University of Reading in the UK and Professor Emeritus at the US Naval War College, will survey the threats and uses of force by the United States since Donald Trump became President in January of 2025, including Iran, Syria, Greenland, and Venezuela. He will assess each as lawful, questionable, or unlawful under international law. Professor Schmitt's commentary on current events appears regularly on Just Security.
