Discover a 900 m underground circuit within the 20 km of galleries of one of the largest mines in the Alps! This historic mine employed over 300 people between the XVIIIᵉ and XXᵉ centuries.
Situated at an altitude of 1,500 meters, in the heart of a remarkable green setting on the edge of the Mercantour National Park, this mine contains galena (silver lead) and blende (zinc ore) deposits exploited as early as the XIᵉ and XIIᵉ centuries, and continuing into the XXᵉ century.
Visits to the site are possible on reservation: in winter with the janitor, and during the summer period with the Neige et Merveilles association.
It's essential to wear closed shoes and warm clothing (10°C in the mine). The visit is not recommended for people in poor health. Children may not be carried inside the mine.
A helmet is provided for each visitor, as well as a protective cap. We do not provide headlamps, as the trail is lit.
You'll need to leave your vehicle at Lac des Mesces and walk 20 minutes to the site. (Elevation gain 100 m)
