In the heart of the hilltop village of Mons, the Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption reveals an exceptional religious heritage. During this guided tour organised by the Tourist Office, step back through centuries of history and discover one of the finest collections of sacred art in the Pays de Fayence.
Church Notre-Dame de l’Assomption is one of the most emblematic landmarks of Mons. Originally built in the 13th century and later enlarged during the 15th and 17th centuries, the building reflects more than seven centuries of community life and traditions in the village.

During this guided visit, you will discover an interior rich in artistic heritage and considered one of the finest examples of sacred art in the region. The church houses six remarkable Baroque altarpieces, including the impressive high altar dating from 1680, whose scale and decoration are worthy of a cathedral. Several of these altars and altarpieces are officially listed as historic monuments due to their exceptional artistic value.

Visitors can also admire many other elements that reflect the spiritual and cultural life of the village: processional crosses, religious artworks and an impressive collection of 91 traditional Provençal santons, highlighting the region’s deep-rooted traditions.

Through the guide’s explanations, the church becomes a living history book, revealing medieval architecture, Baroque embellishments, the restoration of artworks and fascinating stories about the people of Mons through the centuries.

This guided tour invites visitors to slow down, observe the details and discover the artistic richness of this remarkable monument in the heart of one of the most beautiful hilltop villages in Provence.
