The young Werther and his suffering are part of Western history.
With a certain formal risk, Teatro Medico Ipnotico has created a free adaptation for puppet theater, in which the structure of the classic is transposed into a contemporary setting. In this work, loosely inspired by J.W. Goethe's *Die Leiden des Jungen Werthers*, the puppets are confronted with one of their formal possibilities: the statue. A sparse and raw script, in which the characters inexorably accept their predestination, the puppets' movement gradually negates itself until they transform into statues.
Founded in 2009 in Parma, Italy, Teatro Medico Ipnotico creates theater and street performances using the language of traditional wooden puppets and the puppet booth. The company's creative process is based on craftsmanship, the writing of original texts, acting, and collaboration with musicians. Its political commitment lies in preserving the untamed nature of the artwork and the unpredictable nature of its encounter with the public. At the heart of the "medical-hypnotic" experience is the puppet, evolving within its autonomous and transportable space: a small-scale theater called a baracca. In the dramaturgy of the performances, the aesthetics and animation of the puppet are frequently questioned, exploring its affinities and divergences with the doll, the inanimate statue, the monument, the toy, the shadow, and the character.
Teatro Caverna is both a social promotion association and an artistic collective based in Bergamo, Italy, since 2002. Active in the promotion, creation, and dissemination of cultural practices, with a particular focus on the languages of contemporary theater, performance art, and training, it has developed a recognizable artistic identity oriented towards experimenting with stage languages and engaging in dialogue with territories, communities, and social vulnerabilities.
Show in Italian with French surtitles.
