Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, a Côte d'Azur gem

With its pink facade, 9 exceptional gardens and panoramic view, Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is one of the must-see tourist sites on the Côte d’Azur.

LIFE IN THE PINK FOR THE BARONESS…

…Ephrussi de Rothschild!

Born in 1864, Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, daughter of Baron Alphonse de Rothschild, left an exceptional legacy to the French people. Very wealthy through both her birth and marriage to Maurice Ephrussi, she spent her life exploring the world and bringing back works of art from every trip. She displayed them in the pink villa that she had built in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Without an heir, she bequeathed her property – now one of the gems on the Côte d’Azur – to the Académie des Beaux-Arts.

AN EXCEPTIONAL VILLA AT THE HEART OF THE CÔTE D’AZUR

An architectural gem ideally located between Nice and the Principality of Monaco…

With its beauty and location in the heart of the Côte d’Azur, during the ‘Belle Epoque’ Cap Ferrat attracted the international elite. Baroness de Rothschild acquired 7 hectares on the narrowest part of the peninsula. Between 1907 and 1912, she built her villa overlooking 9 amazing gardens, the main one being a French garden. It was designed in the form of the deck of a liner allowing the Baroness to constantly admire the sea on both sides – still one of the most beautiful views on the Côte d’Azur.

THE KEENEST COLLECTOR AND TRAVELLER OF THE CENTURY

Fifteen architects succeeded each other in designing the house representing the Baroness’s wishes and her reminiscences from her travels.

The private salons and apartments were decorated with the souvenirs gathered throughout her life, but also with the many works of art that she had sent by train and selected on the platform of the train station in Beaulieu. The result perfectly illustrates the eclecticism of her tastes, bringing together in one place the splendours of the greatest eras.

THE WORLD TOUR OF THE 9 GARDENS OF THE VILLA EPHRUSSI DE ROTHSCHILD

Did you know? The Villa’s gardens have the national « Remarkable Gardens » label!

A direct extension of the house, the French garden, reminiscent of Versailles, dominates the other 8. Of Spanish, Florentine, Japanese, exotic and Anglo-Provençal inspiration, the property offers a journey across the continents. The most impressive? A rose garden which gave rise to the Rose Festival held there every year in May.
