A Belle Epoque atmosphere, the inspiration and genius of this extraordinary couple permeates every corner of the Château de la Napoule. Henry devoted himself to the building’s architecture and his artistic works in the museum, his wife was behind the gardens that she designed with a talent that is still recognized today.
The couple spent 17 years restoring the castle which now houses the sculpture collection of Henry Clews (1876-1937) and also hosts international artistic projects.

Venetian, Moorish, Roman, the art in the gardens is in the spotlight at the Château de la Napoule!

Did you know? Marie Clews, landscape architect, designed the gardens of the 4 hectare estate between 1919 and 1937, around her husband’s sculptures. She alternated French layouts with English style references, embellished with gardens and fountains. A wide central lane lined with boxwood leads successively to a Moorish garden overlooking the Port of Napoule, a Venetian garden centred around a well, and a Roman garden.

Love gardens? Come and stroll in the shade of cedar and pine trees. Beyond the « Sarrazine » tower, a small intimate garden overlooking the Mediterranean imparting a romantic touch complements the mausoleum in which the Clews are united for all time. Today, the gardens of the Château de la Napoule – listed as a « Remarkable Garden » – are home to works by visual artists. It is an oasis of greenery and calm where you can take a walk whatever the season.
