It will take you through the colourful landscapes of the hills around Nice and to Provence. To get to Nice Puget-Théniers, either take the regular train or go by car.

The Train des Pignes steam train – an usual exclusive experience on the Côte d’Azur!

With its open platform carriages, wooden benches and early 20th century locomotive spewing out swirls of smoke, this famous train offers a truly original experience! It runs every Sunday, from May to November and on some days during the summer. It leaves Puget-Théniers a little before 11 o’clock and drops off its passengers at lunchtime in Annot. Just enough time to explore the medieval town and eat lunch before the train sounds its whistle to announce its return to Puget-Théniers. For families: every year « The Pignes Train celebrates Halloween » at the end of October is a must!

The history of the Train des Pignes steam train!

It was in 1861 that the inventor of the four-stroke engine, Alphonse Beau de Rochas, an engineer born in Digne-les-Bains, thought about linking Nice to Grenoble through the Var Valley, Digne-les-Bains and Gap.
But it wasn’t until 1882 that the military authorities endorsed the project. In total, there are no less than 25 tunnels, 16 viaducts and 15 metal bridges for a line covering 150 km. The railway line finally reached in Nice in 1911 and was officially opened on 3 July.
