Be a winemaker for an afternoon

Above Nice nestles a small village with the sweet name of Saint-Jeannet. There the Rasse family continues to keep the traditional vineyard practices alive.

AN ANCESTRAL VINEYARD…

… WHICH DATES BACK TO ROMAN TIMES

A true love story between the village of St-Jeannet and vine growing during the Roman Empire. At that time mainly table grapes were grown. But any grapes that were not pretty enough to sell were turned into local wine.
The wine had a low alcohol content and didn’t keep for long. It was drunk by workmen throughout the day. One day, a merry roofer forgot his Jeanne wine bottle full of the precious liquid on the roof. He found it a few months later, tasted the wine and discovered it had improved in the sun.

A LONGSTANDING TRADITION

Denis Rasse perpetuates this method – unique in the winemaking world – at the Domaine des Hautes-Collines in Saint-Jeannet. Once the vinification in the cellar is complete, Jeanne wine bottles are placed in the sun to give the wine its unique characteristics. It is said that the « wine is tiled » to describe this maturation technique. Denis pampers his vines and grows them with the greatest respect for nature. The grapes are still harvested by hand in the Rasses’ vineyard.

THE RASSE FAMILY OPENS ITS DOORS!

You are promised a peaceful landscape, marked by vineyards and olive trees and a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean.
Spend the afternoon learning about the profession of winegrower: an introduction to the vinification technique for tuilé wines and a wine tasting in the vineyards is a great opportunity to enjoy this idyllic setting.
If you come during the grape harvest, you’ll certainly be able to pick grapes and also tread them in the vat as was done in the olden days.
