A fiery red rock, a mimosa in full bloom, emerald green water, wildlife that’s not afraid to show itself off… The elements bend over backwards to intoxicate the senses of its guests, whether on a simple stroll or a long hike. Fancy a walk in the fresh air less than 20 kilometres from Cannes? Here’s our selection of 5 hikes you won’t want to miss!

WALKING TRIP No.1: THE BRAGUE VALLEY

Bucolic stroll in a haven of greenery

Renowned for its glass-blowing crafts, the village of Biot is also the starting point for a beautiful hike right through the heart of the parc naturel de la Brague linking Biot to Valbonne.

This trail along the water takes walkers up through a wild, unspoilt riparian forest where alders, hazel trees and ash trees brighten up the many launes and remarkable calcified waterfalls.

Open your eyes! It’s also not uncommon to come across warblers, blackbirds, cuckoos, little owls, jays and other water birds.

IDEE WALK N°2: THE ESTÉREL GRAND DUC CIRCUIT

Guaranteed change of scenery on the Var border

Take a trip to the land of yellow gold on the Côte d’Azur with the Esterel Grand-Duc circuit. This ride through the heart of the Mimosas starts in Mandelieu-La Napoule. Particularly easy, it’s aimed at the whole family and is ideally organised, from January to February, when the little yellow flower is in bloom. As one famous mimosa grower reminds us, “The mimosa that lights up, perfumes and delights will always be the symbol of the Côte d’Azur. It is the only flower that brings the brilliance of its colours and the delicacy of its fragrance to the middle of winter.”

WALKING TRIP No. 3: THE SIAGNE VALLEY

A natural setting for relaxation

This hike along the Siagne through the woods has plenty of surprises in store for walkers. You’ll pass through a sublime forest of centuries-old oaks, rubbing shoulders with maritime pines, elms and hazel trees. Pleasant to walk, even in summer, this unusual route takes you along the left bank of the Siagne on the old Saint-Cassien country lane, which runs alongside the meandering river. While the area is particularly popular in summer for its coolness, the emerald green colour of the Siagne is an invitation to calm and serenity all year round. A tour sure to delight nature lovers!

IDEE BALADE N°4 : LE CAP D’ANTIBES

A little piece of paradise

This pleasant walk, on the coastal path known as the Tirepoil path, skirts the Cap d’Antibes. Fitted with steps in the steep areas, the path not only offers magnificent views of the Antibes coast but also of architectural masterpieces such as the Château de la Croé or the villa Eilenroc. This piece of rock also boasts an incredible diversity of plant species including sea cristae, sea cineraria, sea lavender and Jupiter’s beard.

WALK IDEA N°5 : LA CRETE DES GRUES

A veritable balcony over the Côte d’Azur…

The Crête des Grues, which shelters the privileged site of Miramar and the Figueirette cove from the mistral, has a discreet path offering sublime views over the whole of the west of the department and in particular the l’Esterel and its astonishing and characteristic red rock (porphyry). The Grasse foothills, the Argentera-Mercantour mountain range, the bays of Cannes and Saint-Raphaël all beckon you to look far and wide, with the expanse of the Estérel and its infinite tangle of hills and valleys dominated by Mont Vinaigre (614 m) and the summit of Suvières (558 m) to the north, by the Pic de l’Ours (492 m) to the south, recognisable by its high transmitting station.
