Antibes Juan-les-Pins

Dominique the florist, Denis the fisherman, and Marielle the market gardener await you every morning in the covered market at Cours Masséna. Nestled in the heart of the old town, the Provencal Market is the stage for daily cordial fun. An infinite diversity of scents and seasonal products combine with the Southern accents like that of Jean-Paul, the baker who fills baskets with Pissaladieres and sweet Swiss chard pies.

The little group of narrow streets surrounding the market lead to the Le Safranier district, where the sun plays among the flowers and the colourful doors. In this former fishing district that was home to the author Níkos Kazantzákis, you can still hear the blue waves of the sea come and caress the shore.

From the top of the imposing ramparts designed by Vauban, it’s like time is suspended. Down at the bottom, on La Gravette, one of the many fine sandy beaches in Antibes Juan-les-Pins, things come to life. The people of Antibes and its visitors meet to enjoy the sun’s rays and the light breeze. It penetrates the sea gates and fills the sails of the boats moored at Port Vauban. Authentic, focused on the future, the largest marina in Europe stands out because of its commitments to protect the sea and marine life. It has been awarded the European Clean Port certification.

The golden stones of the Picasso Museum bear witness to the richness and age-old history of the fortified town. Founded on the ancient acropolis of the Greek town of Antipolis, it houses an exceptional collection of works by the Spanish master, who’s death 50 years ago will be commemorated this year. Here, you will also find works by Nicolas de Staël, Hans Hartung and Anna-Eva Bergman. Just a stone’s throw away, on Place Nationale, the Peynet Museum exhibits works by another adopted child of Antibes, Raymond Peynet, creator of the famous lovers so beloved of newlyweds.

Further down, the bunkers are full of life, and we pack in to see the ceramicist, the master glassmaker, the engraver and the painters.

When evening comes, the town lights up, the streets come to life, and the terraces fill up with happy people come from all over to enjoy life in the restaurants, bars and trendy clubs in Antibes Old Town and the seaside resort of Juan-les-Pins. Listen to jazz in a warm, lively and festive atmosphere such as that created by the jazzmen, who stroll through the streets or by those who perform at the famous Gould Pine Forest, the stage for the international Jazz in Juan festival. Throughout the year, a profusion of events charm and envelop the fortified town: “Antibes Art Fair”, “Déantibulations”, “Voiles d’Antibes”, “Coul’heures d’Automne”, etc. We can’t wait to discover them!

Take the coastal path to discover the flora and fauna of the Cap d’Antibes (Natura 2000).

Visit the sea and coastal area to discover marine habitats and species. Discover the new immersion room for a virtual reality diving experience, an aquarium room, a boutique, a relaxation area on the terrace, etc. Also new: the “club nature” half-day workshops for the general public on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Set off on a guided aquatic hike. Take part in environmentally responsible actions.

The Coul’Heures d’Automne Festival, created in 2020, aims to enhance urban art and involve inhabitants in a set of creative processes that allow a different vision of our environment and the role of art in public spaces. 19 major works have been created in the town of Antibes Juan-les-Pins across its two editions. Set out to discover its works, on foot, by bike, jogging, alone or as a family… it’s a way to discover our town with a different view.

And if you’ve got a good eye, seek out the miniatures by Isaac Cordal by roaming the narrow streets of Old Antibes. This open-air exhibition will continue to grow with every new edition of the festival.
