Description
Born of a love affair with the singular music of Charles-François Grégoire de La Ferté, Ensemble La Ferté was founded in 2021 by Paulo Castrillo (baroque violin) and Nicolas Mackowiak (harpsichord), joined by Manon Chapelle (viola da gamba).
All three share the desire to revive the work of a little-known composer whose writing blends French and Italian tastes with striking freedom.
The twelve sonatas for violin and continuo are a veritable musical laboratory: overtures, dances and contrasting movements follow one another, between drama and virtuosity. The violin's writing is alternately declamatory and lilting, while the remarkably inventive bass gives the viola da gamba a central role, until it fully emancipates itself from the continuo in the last sonata.
With this concert, the Ensemble La Ferté invites the public to a sensitive and lively rediscovery of forgotten, audacious and deeply expressive music.
