Action Hot - Stéphanie Hamel-Grain

I am developing a working process called “action art”—or, more specifically in this context, “action hot”—in which the resonance of the drawing is revealed through the void. Through a repetitive gesture with my soldering iron on the material, I play with light and the areas left untouched. Forms emerge as much from what is removed as from what is traced. The absence and the space left untouched become areas of resonance for the eye and the imagination. Each reserved area, each addition of a hole, acts as a pause for breath within the image, giving the viewer time to let the gaze wander, to make associations, and to reconstruct the image. Stéphanie Hamel Grain has developed an artistic practice centered on experimenting with light as it passes through matter.
