Description
The word “personality” comes from the Latin *persona*, meaning “mask.” But who is really hiding behind the fan’s mask? Arthur Gomez is such a huge Eminem fan that he has built his relationship with the world around the figure known as Slim Shady.
The rapper’s influence is such that the word “Stan” (taken from one of his songs) has even made its way into the Oxford Dictionary to describe obsessive fans. But at a time when idols, influencers, and stars are taking up more and more space—when we identify with public figures to the point of becoming one with them—one question remains: does the fan’s mask serve to hide who we are... or to reveal what we don’t dare to be?
With humor, personal revelations, punchlines, and absurd detours, *Please Stand Up* explores this intimate relationship with idols. It’s not just the story of a kid from Grenoble who dreamed of becoming Eminem: it’s also the story of a mask we all wear at some point, and what it reveals when we dare to take it off.
"I guess there’s a Slim Shady in all of us, fuck it... let’s all Stand-Up."
