The "Maison de reposance" of Louis Lombard marquis de Gourdon, mayor of Grasse in 1815, when Emperor Napoleon I returned from Elba and took a brief rest there on the night of March 2/3.

Upon his arrival in Séranon, the Emperor found Mr. Blaise Rebuffel, the steward of the Marquis de Gourdon, who made the Bastide available to him. “The Emperor settled into the castle and spent the night fully clothed, sitting in an armchair leaning against a table, near which he left behind a small bottle of cologne when he departed.” The battalion set up camp around the Bastide and burned the Marquis’s supply of firewood all night long. The muleteers from Caille, who had been requisitioned by the Emperor to carry the troops’ packs, took advantage of the night to flee. In 1836, Madame Lombard de Gourdon bequeathed the Bastide and its lands to the town of Séranon; and in accordance with her wishes, a free elementary school for girls was established within its walls.
