Description
It all begins with Charlotte’s portrait. Slowly, it comes to life and tells us, “This is my life.” The tone is set. We will bear witness to her story—through her desires, her struggles, and her artistic journey—all the way to her deportation to Auschwitz.
Our adaptation of David Foenkinos’s novel, beyond its historical aspect, is above all a play in which the emotion of life takes precedence over a mere reconstruction of the facts. The author, captivated by the work and life of Charlotte Salomon, has successfully conveyed in his story the full vitality of this young Jewish painter and her intense, deeply moving story.
“Charlotte” is a tribute to memory, an emotional lesson to be shared across generations, but above all, an exceptional theatrical adaptation.
