Description
Lecture: “The Order of the Temple, from Jerusalem to Biot”
This conference, dedicated to the Order of the Temple, will take us on a journey through time and across the Mediterranean. The epic history of the Knights Templar began in the 12th century amid the Crusades, in the heart of the Holy City of Jerusalem, where nine knights swore to protect the pilgrims. But this story, which began in the Holy Land, finds its very direct and tangible continuation right here in Biot.
As early as 1209, thanks to a donation from Alphonse II, Count of Provence, the Templars settled on our lands. Biot soon became the seat of a major Templar commandery in the Alpes-Maritimes, shaping the local landscape, managing the agricultural estates, administering the village, and actively contributing to the financing of the campaigns in the East.
