Synopsis:
“We think we know Cuba. We think we’ve seen it a thousand times before. The American cars, the pastel-coloured façades, the salsa, the rum, the cigars… and the ever-present shadows of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. But behind the postcard image, the island is faltering. Today, Cuba is going through a historic crisis. The US embargo, economic collapse, power cuts, widespread shortages: an entire society is struggling to catch its breath. In Havana, in the Viñales valleys, in Trinidad, in Santiago de Cuba, right through to the far reaches of Baracoa and Bayamo, the faces tell a different story: that of a dignified, resourceful people, exhausted but still standing. This film does not peddle a myth. It delves into history to understand the present. It gives a voice to those experiencing the transition – painful, uncertain, at times catastrophic – from a model that has run out of steam. Between revolutionary memory and a desire for the future, we discover an island at a crossroads. Cuba is no longer just dancing. It is resisting. And it is watching us."
